Unprecedented government mandate for the ACQ: census of all camps in Quebec

La Direction du sport, du loisir, de l’activité physique et du plein air du ministère de l’Éducation du Québec (MEQ) appointed the ACQ with the unprecedented mandate of identifying all camps in operation on the territory of Quebec by March 31, 2025.

This census is the first step which will lead to creating a directory presenting only the camps that meet the required standards in terms of safety and quality. This tool, which is planned to be launched later, will be the ally of families and people who wish to work in camps.

ACQ member camps are automatically recorded, but we need you, our members, to report to the census investigation brigade the presence of camps across the four corners of Quebec. Be the eyes and ears of the brigade!

• Do you see an advertisement for camp registrations?
• Do you see a recruitment campaign for counsellors?

Don’t hesitate! Our brigade prefers to manage duplicates rather than missing out on a camp!

What is a camp?

One or more people structured as an organization or business (or not) who welcome participants (regardless of age) outside of school timeframe (during school break, in summer or on weekends) to do activities.

Why is this so important?

As you know in Quebec, it is possible to hold camps outside of any legislative or regulatory framework. Thus, the census is the starting point for the standardization of the quality and safety of Quebec camps which will make it possible to optimize and ensure the safety of participants to strengthen the quality of Quebec camps and avoid camps that do not correspond for reasons of safety and quality mar the reputation of all the camps.
